According to a statement by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) yesterday, the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) will present a puppet show based on the popular children’s book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” this Easter.

The statement pointed out that last summer’s show was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The show, the statement noted, is inspired by stories created by American author and illustrator Eric Carle (1929-2021), enabling children and families to experience “a parade of over 70 colourful puppets” created throughout his career.

The statement underlined that Carle’s illustrated book sold over 50 million copies and “was created with a mix of tissue-paper collages and drawings”, techniques which were also used in Carle’s best-selling stories such as Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?  and the Very Lonely Firefly.

The puppet show was created by Australian-American producer Jonathan Rockefeller and is now produced by a Shanghai-based company. It is aimed at children aged two and up, according to the statement.

The statement said that the show will take place at CCM’s Small Auditorium for four consecutive days, with seven shows running from April 14 to 17 that will be presented in English with Chinese subtitles.

Tickets will be sold from today at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network.

In line with the Health Bureau’s (CCM) pandemic prevention measures, the statement underlined that audience members must wear a facemask, undergo a temperature check, scan the Venue QR Code (venue code), and present a valid “Macau Health Code”. Moreover, audience members must also maintain social distancing and observe pandemic prevention and crowd control measures, the statement added.

Further information and ticketing can be found at www.ccm.gov.mo or “the credit card ticketing hotline” on 2840 0555.

Easter is a public holiday in Macau on April 15-17 (Good Friday, Eve of the Resurrection of Christ, Easter Sunday).
