A launch event for ‘Longines spirit – Macau Edition’ was held yesterday afternoon at the Swiss watchmaker’s flagship store in Largo de São Domingos, unveiling a limited edition watch with Macau-themed designs.

In attendance were Longines HK and Macau Vice President Cecilia Kwok (郭靖心), LAI SI  Enterprise and Holding Ltd CEO and Executive Director Harry Lai Meng Seng (黎鳴山) and MPay, MOME and mFood Founder and entrepreneur Joe Liu Cheuk Yin (廖卓然).

The limited-edition timepiece features with a green-Sunday dial plate that symbolises Macau, while “MACAU EDITION – ONE OF 888” is engraved on the back case. The edition also has the exclusive Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) certified L888.4 movement with silicon balance spring and a power reserve for approximately 72 hours, and a rose gold Arabic numerical scale, among other details.

The Longines Spirit Collection pays tribute to “legendary pioneers who conquer air, land and sea”, who also show courage in breaking new records and made extraordinary achievements in their fields.

For the Macau Edition, Liu, Lai and conductor Lio Kuokman – the programme director of the Macau International Music Festival and the first Chinese assistant conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra, shared their insights into time, elegance, and being a pioneer.

Being renwowned pioneers in their respective fields – architecture and the economy respectively, The Macau Post Daily asked Lai and Liu about the importance of having a vision, with Lai saying that it is “good” for companies and individuals to have a vision as it gears them towards their targets and goals.

“No matter [if] it is a short term or long term [vision], you have to have it” Lai said. He also added that if one wants to be successful, there has to be a plan to get there, as well as that “it’s always good to have some mission or target in mind”.

When asked the same question, Liu also said that a vision is necessary, adding: “You cannot walk into a project without knowing what you want eventually out of it”. “If you have a dream, then you have a firm direction to work towards”, he said. He also noted that no matter how far one goes, the journey towards it counts, as one can learn from it and “do greater things in the future”.
