Four local residents who returned to Macau from Hong Kong and the United Kingdom have tested positive for COVID-19, Macau Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has announced.

The centre has classified the four cases as imported and asymptomatic, because of which they have not been added to Macau’s novel coronavirus tally, which therefore remains at 82.

However, the four cases have raised Macau’s asymptomatic COVID-19 tally to 70.

The first two cases were announced on Tuesday, while the other two cases were announced yesterday.

According to a statement by the centre on Tuesday, the first patient is a 19-year-old woman who returned to Macau from Hong Kong on Monday. She received her first and second Sinopharm inactivated jab in June and July respectively, before receiving an mRNA dose as her booster jab last month.

The second patient is a 70-year-old woman who also returned to Macau from Hong Kong on Monday. She received her first and second Sinovac inactivated jab in February and last month respectively.

Both tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon arrival in Macau.

According to a statement by the centre yesterday, the third patient is a 47-year-old woman who returned to Macau from the UK on Wednesday last week. She has received three mRNA jabs.

She flew from London to Singapore on Wednesday last week, and caught a connecting flight to Macau the same day.

She tested negative for the novel coronavirus upon arrival at the local airport, after which she was transferred to a quarantine hotel for medical observation. However, she tested positive in a follow-up test on Tuesday.

The fourth patient is a 76-year-old man who returned to Macau from Hong Kong on Tuesday. He has not been inoculated against COVID-19 as he holds a certificate issued by Hong Kong’s health authorities confirming his unsuitability for COVID-19 vaccinations. He tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon arrival in Macau.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s statement also announced an imported COVID-19 “re-positive” case, a 50-year-old local man who returned to Macau from Hong Kong on Sunday. The man, who has received three COVID-19 jabs, tested negative for the novel coronavirus upon arrival in Macau, but tested positive in a follow-up test on Tuesday while undergoing medical observation at a quarantine hotel.

The statement said that the man was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease in February, because of which his case has been classified as a “re-positive” case.
