Global COVID-19 tally exceeds half a billion: report

The world's COVID-19 tally exceeds 500 million, or 6.3 percent of the world population, the real-time statistics reference website worldometers.info reports tonight. 

According to the US-based statistics counters service, the global number of novel coronavirus cases stood at 500,173,141 at 9:50 p.m. today (Macau time), when the world's death toll amounted to 6,206,809. 

The United States has recorded more COVID-19 cases and deaths than any other country. As of today, the United States' COVID-19 tally stands at 82.1 million cases, including 1.01 million fatalities, according to worldometers.info

Macau's COVID-19 tally stands at 82. Macau is one of just nine countries and territories that have not recorded any COVID-19 deaths. A total of 226 countries and territories have reported COVID-19 cases, Micronesia being the only one that has only confirmed one case, according to worldometers.info.

The estimated world population stands at over 7.9 billion, according to the website.  – MPD
