Macau's number of visitor arrivals fell by 30.2 year-on-year and 19.6 percent month-on-month to 526,912 in March, owing to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in neighbouring regions, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today.

Same-day visitors (369,661) increased by 5.7 percent year-on-year, while overnight visitors (157,251) declined by 61.2 percent.

On average, overnight visitors stayed for 3.6 days.

Mainlanders accounted for 89.0 percent of all visitor arrivals in March. Besides, there were 52,862 visitors from Hong Kong and 4,867 from Taiwan.

Due to the local government's COVID-19 control and prevention measures, foreign nationals without a local ID card have been barred from entering Macau since March 2020. Macau's COVID-19 tally stands at 82, not including asymptomatic cases. Macau is one of less than a dozen countries and territories in the world without any COVID-19 fatalities.

In the first quarter of this year, the number of visitor arrivals increased by 8.0 percent year-on-year to 1.87 million.
