Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has announced five COVID-19 positive cases imported from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand, raising Macau’s asymptomatic tally to 101.
All five patients are local residents.
The first patient is a 62-year-old man who returned to Macau from Hong Kong on Monday last week. He had previously received three mRNA jabs. He underwent a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Macau, but it came up with an uncertain result, after which he was transferred to the Health Bureau’s (SSM) Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for quarantine. However, the man tested positive for the novel coronavirus in a follow-up test on Tuesday last week, according to a statement by the centre on Wednesday last week.
The second patient is a 46-year-old woman who returned to Macau from Hong Kong on Tuesday last week. She had previously received two mRNA jabs. She underwent a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Macau, but it came up with an uncertain result, after which she was transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre for quarantine. However, the woman tested positive in a follow-up test on Wednesday last week, according to a statement by the centre on Thursday last week.
The third patient is a 25-year-old man who returned to Macau from Taiwan on Friday last week. He had previously received two mRNA jabs. He tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon arrival at the local airport, according to a statement by the centre on Saturday.
The other two patients, whose cases were announced in a statement by the centre on Sunday, comprise a 36-year-old woman arriving from Thailand and a 74-year-old man arriving from Hong Kong both coming here on Saturday.
The 36-year-old woman had previously received three inactivated jabs. She flew from Thailand to Singapore on Friday last week and caught a connecting flight to Macau the next day. She tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon arrival at the local airport, according to Sunday’s statement.
The 74-year-old man received his first and second mRNA jab in October and November respectively, before receiving a Sinovac inactivated dose as his booster jab last month. He tested positive for the novel coronavirus upon arrival in Macau.
All five patients are undergoing isolation at the Public Health Clinical Centre.
Macau’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases remains at 82.
Since December last year, the Macau government has separately classified and announced asymptomatic COVID-19 cases and confirmed COVID-19 cases.
‘Re-positive’ case from returnee from UK
Meanwhile, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre yesterday announced an imported COVID-19 “re-positive” case, a 22-year-old local woman who returned to Macau from the United Kingdom via Singapore on Saturday.
A COVID-19 “re-positive” case means that a person has tested positive for the novel coronavirus again in a nucleic acid test (NAT) after having previously been infected with COVID-19 and recovered.
According to a statement by the centre yesterday, the young woman had previously received three Sinopharm inactivated jabs. She flew from the UK to Singapore on Friday last week and caught a connecting flight to Macau the next day.
The woman underwent a COVID-19 nucleic acid test (NAT) upon arrival at the local airport, but it came up with an uncertain result, after which she was transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre for quarantine. However, she tested positive in a follow-up test on Sunday, because of which she is now continuing her stay at the Public Health Clinical Centre for isolation.
The statement said that the woman was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease in December, because of which her case has been classified as a “re-positive” case.
COVID-19 “re-positive” cases are not classified as confirmed COVID-19 cases for Macau, neither are they classified as asymptomatic COVID-19 cases for Macau.
