The “I am Wobbly – Wang Zheng Hong Art Exhibition” is currently taking place at the H853 Art Space of the Lisboeta Macau complex in Cotai, conveying the artist’s message of maintaining a positive attitude through 20 giant stainless-steel sculptures.
A recent Lisboeta statement, which also refers to the sculptures as tumblers, says that the sculptures were designed by Wang, who is also the exhibition’s curator. The exhibition captures her memories of growing up and reflects her attitude towards “standing tall in life” through the tumblers.
The statement quoted Wang in her speech during last month’s opening ceremony as saying: “The inspiration for this art exhibition was from my father’s strict but caring parenting style during my childhood, he encouraged me to learn from tumblers and never fall down, [and] overcome challenges and obstacles again and again”. The statement also quoted her as saying that she hopes the art pieces can inspire people to live with an optimistic mind and lifestyle.
Lisboeta Macau’s Retail Business Development Vice President Christine Hong was also quoted in the statement as saying that the public will be hopefully cheered up through the tumblers’ “never falling positive attitude” and to continue fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic together while facing challenges with a “positive energy”.
Wang, the acting deputy dean of the School of Handicraft Art of the China Academy of Art (CAA), graduated from the academy’s Sculpture Department and majored in jewellery and metalworking art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, the statement noted. She returned to the mainland in 2009 and received a doctorate in Public Arts from the China Academy of Art.
The exhibition is organised by H853 Fun Factory in conjunction with the Humarish Club. It is open until July 22 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., with an entrance fee of 30 patacas.
