The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that the Macau Museum of Art (MAM) and the Handover Gifts Museum of Macau in Nape will host a series of activities and exhibitions this month in celebration of the International Museum Day on Wednesday.
Themed “The Power of Museums”, the statement noted that the theme suggests the power of achieving sustainability, innovating on digitalisation and accessibility, and community building through education.
The statement noted that the museums, in conjunction with over 10 local museums, launched on May 1 the “One Museum, One Story: Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2022 WeChat Game”, which runs until May 29. The page can be accessed by scanning the game’s QR code or on WeChat at “ICmacao”.
The statement added that upon completing the game’s “check-in tasks”, the public can participate in the lucky draw during the “Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2022” on May 29, while game winners can receive prizes such as museum gifts and supermarket gift vouchers. The carnival, which will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., features various activities at the two museums, including game booths such as the “Treasure Hunt in an Office in Iao Hon” and “Treasure Hunt for the Handover Gifts of Macao”.
According to the statement, there will also be other activities such as additional guided tours in both museums on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the activity “Dreaming in Macao Memory”, which will be held between May 22 and May 29, includes two guided routes designed with the cultural characteristics of Macau’s community displayed in the exhibition ‘“YiiMa” “Art Group: Allegory of Dreams”.
Meanwhile, on May 31 the seminar “Full of Challenges: the 59th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia” will be held online and offline, with “YiiMa” Art Group’s Ung Vai Meng and Chan Hin Io sharing their experience of participating in the exhibition, the statement underlined.
The statement pointed out that MAM is also currently holding various exhibitions such as “Wild Imagination: Contemporary Ink Art in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao from 2000 to 2022”, and “Portraits and Busts by Tam Chi Sang Donated to the Macao Museum of Art”, while a display board promotes the exhibition ‘“YiiMa” Art Group: Allegory of Dreams”.
The museums are open from Tuesday to Sunday, and public holidays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last entry at 6:30 p.m.) with free admission. In line with the government’s pandemic prevention measures, participants must wear a facemask, undergo temperature checks, present a valid “Venue QR Code” and “Macao Health Code”, maintain social distancing and follow on-site measures.
