Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin yesterday slammed the “deliberate hype” in the US over the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC, suing former Las Vegas and Macau casino mogul in order to register him as an agent for the Chinese government.

Responding to a reporter’s question about the matter, Wang said that “the US move is based on nothing but hearsay to deliberately hype up the ‘China-threat’ theory,” adding that “China always develops relations with other countries based on such principles as mutual respect and non-interference in each other’s domestic affairs.”

Wang also said, “We hope the US will discard the Cold War and zero-sum mentality and stop making an issue of China at every turn.”

Wynn, 80, stepped down as CEO of Wynn Resorts in 2018 amid sexual misconduct allegations that he denied. According to US media report, he has refused the department’s demand to register as a “foreign agent.”
