The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that the Macao Public Library has published the 30th issue of its trilingual “Books and the City” magazine, this time themed “The Distance between Life and Death”.

According to the statement, the latest issue interviewed three people with different experiences of life and death, as well as introduced books on life issues, adding that it hopes to “discuss life and death with the public through words”.

The “Library Handbook” in the issue, the statement noted, introduces one of the reading promotion activities in “Books under the Sun” called “Breathing and Reading in the Mountains”, which aims to enable participants to learn hiking basics and appreciate nature through reading nature-themed books with a reading instructor.

Meanwhile, the “Author’s Say” section includes an interview with the author of “The Pursuit of a Star in the Sea of Light”, Ieong Weng Hong, detailing “the challenges faced by students with special needs in their lives” and how they face them with an “unyielding will and a positive attitude towards life”, the statement pointed out.

Meanwhile, the “New Launch” section introduces new books, films, music and magazines, while 10 book reviews in Chinese, Portuguese and English are also featured in the issue, the statement said.

The statement noted that 3,000 copies are available for free in public libraries under the bureau, tertiary education institutions, the Tap Seac Gallery and various bookstores, and cultural and art spaces.

The past 29 issues are also available online at www.library.gov.mo.
