A tourist from the mainland was arrested on Thursday for surreptitiously taking photos and videos of female tourists for about an hour and a half near The Parisian Macao’s Eiffel Tower, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lai said the suspect surnamed Yang is in his thirties holding a mainland travel permit. The victims, who are all from the mainland, are in their twenties and came to Macau as tourists.
According to Lai, the four victims went to the Eiffel Tower at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, where Yang started taking photos and videos of them. Lai said the women saw Yang but didn’t take much notice and entered the nearby Le Jardin park together. At that time, Yang got closer and closer to them and continued to snap away for more than an hour, making the quartet feel extremely uncomfortable, eventually leading to them to call the police.
Lai underlined that after the police arrested Ieong, the suspect told the police that he was attracted by the women’s beauty and thus started following and recording them until they reached the park.
The police also found more than 100 photos and videos of females taken on that day, some of which were women other than the quartet.
Yang has meanwhile been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), according to Lai, who said that the photos and videos taken by Yang do not contain anything obscene. Consequently, Lai said, Yang was facing illegal recordings and photography charges.
