The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday it is recalling and stopping the food sector from selling the “Jif” brand of “CRUNCHY PEANUT BUTTER” as it was possibly contaminated with salmonella.
The statement noted that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada, and the Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety are recalling several types of peanut butter that were manufactured by “Jif” because they may be contaminated with salmonella. The statement added that the bureau has issued a safety warning to the food sector and sent its staff to inspect the local market since receiving the announcements from these countries and regions, and found that this type of peanut butter was sold locally.
The statement underlined that the suspect batch of the item named “CRUNCHY PEANUT BUTTER” with No. 2016425 was imported from the United States.
According to the statement, the bureau has immediately implemented a “prevention and control measure” in the food sector to stop selling the suspect items while it is recalling the batch from the market. In order to protect customers’ food safety, the sector should remove the suspect product from the shelves and inform the IAM Food Safety Department, the statement added.
The bureau will follow up on the issue and pay attention to the matter to ensure that the suspect batch is not sold in the local market. It urged consumers to stop eating the suspect product, the statement underlined.
