Macau’s imports of beauty, cosmetic and skincare products rose by 52.3 percent year on year to 8.49 billion patacas in the first four months of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
The products, which are popular both with locals and visitors, accounted for 16.4 percent of Macau’s imports between January and April – the main import segment ahead of food and beverage imports which rose by 38.2 percent to 5.78 billion patacas and mobile phone imports which grew by 20.9 percent to 5.53 billion patacas.
Total imports increased by 19.8 percent to 51.6 billion patacas, while exports rose by 12.4 percent to 5.07 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 85.5 percent of all exports. Some 77.7 percent of Macau’s exports were shipped to Hong Kong.
The Chinese mainland, France and Italy continued to be Macau’s main sources of imported goods, accounting for 29.0 percent, 21.0 percent and 12.0 percent of all imports.
