Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has announced five COVID-19 positive cases imported from a number of foreign countries and Hong Kong, raising Macau’s asymptomatic tally to 148.

Two of the five asymptomatic cases were announced yesterday, while two others were announced on Sunday, and one was announced on Saturday.

The two female local patients announced yesterday comprise a 19-year-old who returned to Macau on Saturday from Canada via Singapore and a 25-year-old who returned to Macau from Hong Kong on Sunday.

Both had previously received three mRNA jabs.

The two male local patients announced on Sunday comprise a 59-year-old who returned to Macau on Saturday from the United Kingdom via the Netherlands and Singapore, and a 22-year-old who returned to Macau on Saturday from the United States via Singapore. They had previously received two and three mRNA jabs respectively.

The patient announced on Saturday is a 69-year-old Hong Kong man who entered Macau on Thursday. He had previously received three mRNA jabs.

Macau’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases remains at 83.

3 ‘re-positive’ cases from HK & UK

Meanwhile, the centre has also announced three “re-positive” cases imported from Hong Kong and the UK.

The first case was announced on Friday, while the other two were announced on Sunday.

The first patient is a 47-year-old Hong Kong man who entered Macau on Thursday. He had previously received three Sinovac inactivated jabs.

The other two patients comprise a 17-year-old local girl who returned to Macau on Saturday from the UK via Singapore and a 34-year-old Hong Kong man who entered Macau on Saturday.

The girl had previously received two mRNA jabs, while the man, who has not been inoculated against COVID-19, holds a certificate issued by Hong Kong’s health authorities confirming his unsuitability for COVID-19 vaccinations.

A COVID-19 “re-positive” case means that a person has tested positive for the novel coronavirus again in a nucleic acid test (NAT) after having previously been infected with COVID-19 and recovered.

The three patients’ cases have been classified as “re-positive” cases as all of them had previously been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease.

All eight asymptomatic or “re-positive” patients are now undergoing isolation at the Health Bureau’s (SSM) Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane.

COVID-19 “re-positive” cases are not classified as confirmed COVID-19 cases for Macau, neither are they classified as asymptomatic COVID-19 cases for Macau.
