The top of a lift in The Londoner Hotel in Cotai caught fire yesterday, the Fire Services Bureau (CB) said in a statement.
No one was injured in the incident.
The bureau received a report about the fire at around 12:30 p.m. yesterday after security guards at the hotel called the emergency services.
According to the statement, technicians of the company providing the hotel with lift repair and maintenance services had put out the blaze with fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived at the scene.
After firefighters arrived at the hotel, they saw that smoke had permeated the 29th floor.
When the firefighters arrived there, the lift stopped on the ninth floor, where they saw that its top had been burnt, the statement said.
According to the statement, hotel staff had evacuated around 30 affected guests to a safe location.
After an examination, the statement said, technicians from the lift company believe that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
