According to a statement by the MUST CPK Soccer Training Centre, a “Summer Kid Intensive Soccer Experience Day 2022” was held yesterday on the front pitch of The International School of Macao (TIS) in Cotai, from which 40 potential young football talents were selected to enter an intensive summer training programme, adding that the talents who completed the programme will compete against an U12 team from the Greater Bay Area (GBA) in August.

The Greater Bay Area (GBA) comprises the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau and nine cities in Guangdong – Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan, and Zhuhai.

The statement noted that the “Summer Kid Intensive Soccer Experience Day 2022” was co-hosted by HSBC Life (Hong Kong Shanghai Bank) and MUST CPK that aimed to provide more opportunities for local youngsters to access sports activities and promote the development of Macau’s sports and culture industry. The statement added that MUST CPK hopes to encourage more young people to become integrated into the nation such as through their upcoming match against a GBA football team.

The statement said that in order to heed the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 control and prevention measures, the Soccer Experience Day was divided into four sessions.

MUST CPK founder Domingos Kong told reporters before yesterday’s opening ceremony of the event that the registration number had reached over 300 in the morning, adding that 40 selected young footballers will be trained for two months and afterwards will compete against a football team from other GBA cities in Macau.

According to the statement, a further 200 young footballers registered for the afternoon sessions.

He said that if the selected players are still interested in football after the two-month training programme, they can join the MUST CPK football team to continue their training.

MUST CPK is the short form of Chao Pak Kei Football Team which is sponsored by the private  Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).

The team was set up in 2008.
