A self-professed crossdresser was arrested for stealing four pairs of women’s shoes, two dresses, a doll, and an umbrella worth a total of 31,000 patacas, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Cheong said that the suspect surnamed Ho is a 39-year-old local man, who told the police that he is an employee of a telephone repair service.
According to Cheong, two women who live in the same building in Patane district reported to the police last month that their clothes and other items which they had left outside their flats had been stolen, so after scrutinising the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system and the building’s own CCTV footage, PSP officers identified Ho as the suspect and caught him last Wednesday in his flat in Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida, and a large amount of women’s clothes, including underwear, was discovered in Ho’s flat.
Under questioning by the police, Ho admitted that he is a crossdresser and had stolen items including clothes many times from different buildings in the past year. He also admitted, according to Cheong, that he had also stolen several women’s clothes from a building in Ilha Verde, adding that he had thrown away some of the clothes that did not fit.
Cheong said that Ho admitted that there were more victims, and PSP officers found a third female victim who said that she had previously lost three items of clothing worth 780 patacas.
Cheong said that the Public Security Police have transferred Ho to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) where he is facing a theft charge, adding that the case is under further investigation.
