The East Asia Super League (EASL), which is also present in Macau, has announced in a recent statement that NBA (National Basketball Association) rookie sensation Filipino-American Jalen Green will be the league’s newest investor ambassador ahead of the inaugural home-and-away season pan-regional format slated for October.
EASL is a basketball league that has clubs in mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. It debuted in Macau in 2017 with the league’s first tournament “Super 8: Macau Basketball Invitational”.
According to the statement, Green was the “NBA’s highest-drafted Asian American player in the league (second overall) and became the third athlete of Filipino descent to make it to the NBA”. With his role as investor ambassador, Green will join former NBA stars Baron Davis, Metta World Peace and Shane Battier in supporting the league.
The statement added that Green is among the “most influential athletes in the game today”, particularly in the Philippines, where his mother is from, and “has become a global symbol of basketball”.
Green will be active in interviews, online events with local players, social media campaigns and “on-the-ground activities in the Philippines and other Asian markets during his off-season”, according to the statement.
The statement quoted Green as saying: “I’m excited to partner with the East Asia Super League and connect with more of my fans in the Philippines and across Asia. I want to be an inspiration for the next generation of hoopers in Asia and elevate the game in the region and that’s what EASL is all about”.
