A businessman was arrested for taking a non-resident worker’s (NRW) cash from an ATM which he had forgotten to pick up after withdrawing it, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Wong said both the suspect and the victim are mainlanders. The 34-year-old suspect surnamed Wu told the police he’s a businessman.
Wong said that at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday the victim left the ATM leaving behind the HK$16,000 cash he had just withdrawn in a Cotai hotel resort’s lobby. When the victim returned in less than a minute, he discovered that the cash had gone and decided to report the case to the police, said Wong.
After checking the lobby’s CCTV footage, the police identified Wu as taking the cash, said Wong, adding that the hotel security intercepted Wu within an hour and informed the police. Wong said the police found the cash belonging to the victim in the suspect’s hotel guestroom.
Wu has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Wong.
