22 schools join ‘MACA Studio Workshop’

A statement from the Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) yesterday said that it held its “Studio Workshops” on the 16, 17, 23 and 24 of last month, with the participation of teachers and students from 22 secondary schools.

MACA, according to the statement, has hosted the workshop for six years, having annually received support and participation from various secondary school teachers and students. The statement noted that the recent workshops had a total of over 40 participants, with the number of workshops having increased from two to four.

The schools that participated included Instituto Salesiano de Macau, Hou Kong Middle School, Concórdia School For Special Education, Saint John de Brito School, Pui Ching Middle School and Colégio Diocesano de São José 5, among others.

The statement noted that MACA explained music copyrights through a short video prior to each event, enabling the audience to “understand the copyright issues encountered when using music in daily life, MACA works to protect the copyright rights of music creators, the music copyright application process”.

The association also invited senior musician, composer, arranger and local audio mixing engineer Jason Chang to introduce the production process, the statement said.

Through the workshops, the statement underlined that the association hopes teachers and students will “understand and experience different fields of music”. The statement noted that the association “aims to cultivate and strengthen students’ interest in music creation”.

The statement pointed out that schools or institutions interested in participating in the workshops can contact the association at info@maca.org.mo.

According to the association’s website, MACA are located in Alameda Dr Carlos d’Assumpção, Praça Kin Heng Long C10. Its office is open from Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Fridays. The office is closed on weekends and public holidays.
