Macau's government offices will remain closed for one more week, except for those providing "urgent or indispensable" services to the public, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has announced.

Ho's executive order was published in the Official Gazette (BO) this morning.

According to the order, government offices will be closed from tomorrow through Friday, with the exception of those providing "urgent and indispensable" services to the public.

Ho said the measure aimed to avoid transmission of the novel coronavirus.

The order underlines that civil servants can be ordered by the heads of their respective bureaus and other entities to report to work to assist in the anti-COVID-19 prevention work, or for other reasons of public interest.

Government offices providing non-urgent and non-indispensable services have been closed since Monday, June 20, according to a previous executive order.

Macau reported its first case in the current COVID-19 outbreak on June 18. The number of novel coronavirus cases since the outbreak had stood at 190 yesterday.

As of yesterday, Macau's tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases since January 2020 stood at 129, while the number of asymptomatic cases amounted to 350. No COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Macau.
