The Fire Services Bureau (CB) said in a statement yesterday that a mattress fell off the back of a lorry and was run over by a public bus, causing it to catch fire due to friction.
The statement said that the incident happened at around 3 a.m. yesterday on Ponte da Amizade (Friendship Bridge). The statement added that firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the burning mattress with a high-pressure water hose.
No one was injured in the incident.
A follow-up statement by Public Security Police (PSP) said that they questioned the lorry driver about the incident. According to the statement, the driver did not know that the mattress had fallen off his lorry, and he was fined for not securing the mattress appropriately.
