The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that it has continued to strengthen its COVID-19 prevention measures in the wholesale fresh produce market in Ilha Verde, while Nam Yue (Group) Co. Ltd., which operates and manages the market, has strictly followed the bureau’s requirements and guidelines to enhance the cleaning and disinfection works in the market.
The statement underlined that everyone, including drivers, traders and workers who enter the market are required to scan a code provided by the market for registration. The statement added that market’s key areas, such as lifts, toilets and drains are regularly cleaned and disinfected throughout the day.
In order to ensure the market environment and citizens’ safety and hygiene, the statement underlined that all floors in the market are cleaned and disinfected every day after the market is closed.
The statement noted that there are over 500 vehicles and 1,700 people entering the market every day, with a large traffic flow and frequent entries and exits. Therefore, the bureau noted that Nam Yue has urged people not running a business in the market not to enter the wholesale fresh produce market, so as to cooperate with the government’s novel coronavirus prevention and control work. The statement quoted Nam Yue as saying that there are no retail sales in the market.
Meanwhile, the statement noted that more than 260 tonnes of vegetables, 100 tonnes of fruit, 600,000 eggs and over 10,000 frozen poultry are imported from the mainland every day, which are then transferred to Macau’s retail markets, such as municipal wet markets and supermarkets from the wholesale fresh produce market.
