The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that it is continuing to enhance disinfection works in locked-down buildings (“Red Code Zones”) such as San Mei On Bldg. and Kat Cheong Bldg., but urged people in the affected areas to cooperate as rubbish is still being discarded in communal areas.
The bureau, the statement noted, has been sending staff to locked-down buildings every night to collect the garbage of each household since the start of the current COVID-19 outbreak. Moreover, disinfection is conducted every two days in San Mei On Bldg. and over nine tonnes of domestic waste was collected from the building since its lockdown until yesterday, while around one tonne of garbage was cleared from Kat Cheong Bldg. within three days.
However, the statement pointed out that there were still a lot of miscellaneous objects and rubbish left in communal areas such as the staircases in San Mei On Bldg. Block II and Edf. Kat Cheong. The bureau urged households not to litter and to be aware of environmental hygiene, as well as to place properly wrapped household waste outside their doors every night to be collected by IAM staff.
The bureau also reminded the householdss of their responsibility to maintain the communal areas’ environmental hygiene and not to litter. Moreover, the statement underlined that miscellaneous objects like furniture and electrical appliances should not be discarded in the areas, while also reminding everyone in the locked-down buildings to stay at home and pay attention to personal and living environment hygiene.
As of last night, there were seven Red Code Zones in the city.
