A restaurant worker hanged herself in her dormitory yesterday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement.
The statement identified the deceased as a 52-year-old female surnamed Deng, a non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland. She lived with her colleagues in a dormitory in Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira in San Kio district, the statement added.
According to the statement, one of her colleagues last saw Deng when she returned to her room at 6:30 p.m. yesterday, but Deng did not appear later at the restaurant for her shift as usual. Her colleague decided to check up on her, the statement said. After receiving no response, her colleague decided to look inside her room, which was locked, through the vent, only to find that Deng had hanged herself, the statement said.
The statement said firefighters arrived at the scene and broke into the room and found Deng hanging from the bunk bed frame by a silk scarf. The firefighters untied the scarf and had her taken to a hospital immediately where she was pronounced dead, the statement said.
According to the statement, PJ officers confirmed that the marks on Deng’s neck matched the silk scarf she used to hang herself.
An initial examination of the body by PJ officers showed that Deng had no injuries that could have been caused by foul play, nor were there any signs of a struggle found at the scene, the statement said.
No suicide note was found at the scene, the statement said.
The statement said that a post-mortem examination will be performed.
