The implementation of the government’s basic academic attainment guidelines continues to divide the public, as some fear that the lack of a clearly defined standard may lower the quality of education, while others praise the government for its attempt to update the city’s education.

Over 50 members of the public attended yesterday’s open-air debate programme hosted by government broadcaster TDM in Areia Preta Park. The forum is held every Sunday morning.

The government’s guidelines for the non-tertiary education sector’s basic academic attainments, introduced last year, cover various aspects such as basic knowledge, skills and ability and attitude the pupils are supposed to have after each level of education.
