The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced in a statement yesterday that only facemasks for children will be sold in the government’s 44th round of the “Guaranteed Mask Supply for Macau Residents Scheme”, which runs from today until August 19.

The sale of surgical facemasks for adults is suspended, considering that Macau is currently in a state of “relatively static” movement of people through July 30, adults must wear a KN95 (or a higher standard) facemask when out and about, the statement noted.

Facemasks for children, according to the statement, can be bought from 55 designated pharmacies, with children aged 3 to 8 (those born between July 22, 2013 and August 19, 2019) eligible for 30 child facemasks for 24 patacas. Parents were reminded to take the respective child’s original Macau ID card to one of the pharmacies to enable verification by pharmacy staff by checking the child’s date of birth.

The statement pointed out that each eligible resident is able to purchase the government-provided children’s facemasks within the scheme’s period, emphasising that there is no need to rush to buy them as it would lead to crowdks. gathering

Meanwhile, the government has distributed free KN95 masks to the public on several occasions during the ongoing mass nucleic acid testing (NAT) drives. The statement added that people can purchase the KN95 (or higher standard) facemasks at local pharmacies when needed, ensuring that they always have one to wear when going out.

To lessen the risks of COVID-19 transmission, members of the public are urged to “stay home, suspend non-essential activities, reduce movement in the community, minimise interpersonal contact and crowd gatherings”.
