A 26-year-old COVID-19 carrier gave birth to a boy today, the Macau Health Bureau (SSM) said in a statement tonight, pointing out that the newborn tested negative for the novel coronavirus.
According to the statement, the woman, who had been pregnant for over 40 weeks, went into labour at Sheraton Grand Macao in Cotai at 5 a.m. where she was in medical observation quarantine because of her COVID-19 infection. She was rushed by ambulance to the public Conde de S. Januario Hospital Centre on the peninsula where she gave birth in the facility's negative-pressure room at 5:50 a.m.
Upon request of the mother, the newborn has been transferred to the Health Bureau's Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for medical observation and isolation. According to the statement, the mother is in a stable condition.
