Backed by the New Macau Gaming Workers’ Rights Union, two former casino employees, who claim that they were fired “unreasonably”, complained to the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) yesterday afternoon.
Chloee Chao Sao Fong, who heads the union, told reporters outside the bureau her group had received “about five to six” complaints by former employees of a local casino operator’s table games department who said they had been fired after receiving three warning letters each about falling asleep during working hours.
Chao said that according to her knowledge only one gaming company had fired its employees for that particular reason. Lei Man Chao, the union’s vice-president, later told reporters the company in question was Melco Crown Entertainment.
