Macau logs record 14.6 million visitors in Jan-April

     Macau recorded the entry of over 14.6 million visitors in the first four months of the year, up 13.1 percent year-on-year, representing an all-time historical record for the period under review.

In the first four months of this year, the number of visitor arrivals totalled 14,655,300, according to data released by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) today. This figure comprises same-day visitors (9,103,273) and overnight visitors (5,552,027), whose growth rates were 20.1 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively.

Between January and April, the number of foreign visitor arrivals reached 1,009,892, an increase of 10.7 percent year-on-year. Visitors’ average length of stay was one day, while that of overnight tourists stood at more than two days.

In April, the number of visitor arrivals was 3.44 million, up 11.3 percent year-on-year.

On average, Macau recorded 114,713 visitor arrivals per day in April, equivalent to 16.7 percent of Macau’s population.

At the end of the first quarter of this year, Macau’s population stood at 688,100, according to official demographics.

In terms of visitor source markets las month, the number of visitor arrivals from the Chinese mainland rose by 13.1 percent year-on-year to 2.4 million. Visitors from Hong Kong (680,521) and Taiwan (101,453) increased by 3.1 percent and 32.2 percent, respectively.

Foreign visitor arrivals in April totalled 254,136, up 10.5 percent, led by tourists from the Philippines (51,544), South Korea (40,603), and Thailand (29,008). Regarding long-haul visitors, the number of Macau’s US visitor arrivals rose by 13.9 percent year-on-year to 15,299 last month.
