The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that it is continuing to ensure the cleanliness of the indoor and outdoor vendor areas of the city’s wet markets.
The statement noted that for vendor areas with a daily high flow of people, such as Rua da Emenda, “special teams” carry out “in-depth” cleaning and disinfection.
In municipal wet markets, the statement pointed out, additional staff are deployed to regularly clean doorknobs, escalators, lift buttons and other facilities with diluted bleach.
Meanwhile, the markets’ public passages are cleaned during closing hours at noon, while a more thorough disinfection is conducted using “high-pressure water hoses and sprayers” during closing hours in the evening
The bureau, according to the statement, will continue to evaluate the flow of people in the outdoor and indoor areas of wet markets and in order to reduce crowd gatherings and act in line with pandemic prevention measures, crowd control measures will also be put in place.
Moreover, vendors must complete rapid antigen tests (RATs) daily prior to going to work. The test results are checked and verified by inspectors before they open. Vendors must also strictly follow hygiene and pandemic prevention guidelines, take adequate personal protection measures, and pay close attention to environmental hygiene.
