The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement yesterday the resumption of exemption from quarantine upon entering Zhuhai.

According to the statement, an agreement was reached under the “Zhuhai-Macau Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism” where those intending to enter Zhuhai from Macau must present valid proof of a negative nucleic acid test (NAT) result issued within 24 hours, with residents and visitors departing Macau being exempt from quarantine in Zhuhai. However, the statement noted that they must declare relevant information on the Health Zhuhai app in advance and strictly follow the relevant pandemic prevention measures.

Meanwhile, those who want to enter Macau via the ports of entry between Zhuhai and the city must present valid proof of their negative NAT result issued within 48 hours, which remains unchanged, the statement said.

The statement added that the Barrier Gate checkpoint’s arrival and departure halls are temporarily closed to border crossers until 6 a.m. tomorrow due to fire safety improvement work in Zhuhai’s Gongbei checkpoint, advising residents and visitors to enter Zhuhai via other land ports of entry.

The channels for border-crossing vehicles remain open, with border-crossing hours remaining unchanged at the Qingmao, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Macau-Hengqin and Zhuhai-Macau Cross Border Industrial Zone checkpoints.

Meanwhile, MGTO said that various videos and posts have been uploaded on its official WeChat, Douyin, Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) and other platforms, adding that it is preparing promotional offers and the launch of themed-travel packages to offer experiences such as culinary delights and events and festivals through partnerships with e-commerce and online travel platforms.

The statement underlined that MGTO will continue to combine different aspects of culture and creativity, sports, gastronomy and technology in the second half of the year to enhance travellers’ participation in events and festivals, as well as lead more visitors into local communities for sightseeing and consumption.

The “Experience Macao, Unlimited” promotional campaign will continue to showcase monthly city highlights themed from September to December such as “Autumn Delights” and “November Formula”. It will bring back the “marketing power of local businesses into the picture” as the latest COVID-19 outbreak has subsided.
