The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) lowered all tropical cyclone signals at 6 p.m. yesterday as a tropical depression is further weakening.

The weather station had hoisted Standby Signal No.1 on Wednesday at 11 p.m., which remained in force until 6 p.m. yesterday.

A statement by the bureau yesterday said that under the impact of residual rainbands, the weather today will still be unstable with frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms. Therefore, the bureau urged the public to pay close attention to the latest weather information.

Meanwhile, according to a separate statement by the bureau yesterday, the tropical depression generated near the northern shore of the South China Sea on Wednesday night landed in Huizhou city in Guangdong province yesterday. It has been gradually moving inland and is gradually dissipating.

The statement said that another tropical cyclone is expected to form on the Philippines coast this weekend. The observatory predicts that the tropical cyclone will enter the South China Sea early next week and gradually move towards the coast of Guangdong.

The statement underlined that although both the track and intensity of the tropical cyclone are “still uncertain”, squally showers are expected to occur in Macau next week.

Moreover, the statement noted, due to the combined impact of the two tropical cyclones, floods may occur in the Inner Harbour area from next Tuesday.
