A local woman has made nine unauthorised transfers totalling 34,700 patacas while working at a restaurant in Taipa in May and June this year to pay her rent and repay debts, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said on Friday, adding that after her embezzlement was discovered, she quit her job and the eatery lost contact with her.

According to a regular press conference on Friday, the Public Security Police received a report from an employee of a restaurant in Taipa on June 16, saying that when the company checked its accounts it found nine unidentified transfer records involving a total of 34,700 patacas, which were later confirmed to have been remitted between May and last month by Cheang, who had promised to repay the money before she quit her job. The restaurant only decided on June 13 to report the case to the police, when they lost contact with Cheang, who meanwhile had only repaid the company 18,500 patacas.

The Public Security Police summoned Cheang, who is in her twenties, to a police station on July 5 for questioning, but she refused to cooperate with the investigation.

Cheang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an abuse of trust charge.
