The Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) said in separate statements yesterday that it will be selling two new stamp themes on Monday: “Macanese Gastronomy” and the “Feast of Saint John”.
According to the bureau, the issuance of this year’s seventh new stamp theme “Feast of Saint John” was originally scheduled for June 24, but the philatelic products’ sale and hand-back date-stamping service (with June 24 as the cancellation date) was postponed to August 15 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, adding that the issue date remains unchanged and mailing services for it are unavailable.
CTT said that the “Feast of Saint John” marks the 400th anniversary of Portuguese-ruled Macau’s victory over the attempted invasion by the Dutch on June 24, 1622. Since 2007, the feast has been organised at Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro by several local associations, with Portuguese and Macanese customs and lifestyles promoted.
Moreover, in 2020, the feast was recorded in the “Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Macao”, the bureau pointed out.
This issue’s stamp designer is André Lui Chak Keong, while the information brochure’s text has been written by the International Institute of Macau.
Featuring a set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet, CTT noted that the stamps include illustrations like the feast held in Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro and Portuguese-style buildings with colourful flags. The souvenir sheet, meanwhile, shows Saint John the Baptist’s statue placed at the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), among others.

Meanwhile, this year’s eighth theme, “Macanese Gastronomy”, was scheduled to be issued on July 20, but the philatelic products’ sale and hand-back date-stamping service (cancellation date is July 20) was also postponed to August 15. The issue date also remains unchanged and mailing services are unavailable.
The stamps were designed by Victor Hugo Marreiros, with the information brochure’s text written by the Macanese Association. This issue includes a set of four stamps and one souvenir sheet, with images illustrating five culinary delights chosen from the Macanese Cuisine Database.

Both issues will be available for sale next week at the General Post Office (GPO) from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays.
