Yesterday, two taxis collided with two buses in two separate traffic accidents, and one of the cabbies was trapped in the vehicle and had to be rescued by firefighters who rushed him to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment.

At 6 a.m. yesterday, a traffic accident occurred in Avenida 24 de Junho when a taxi crashed into a bus, resulting in an oil spill measuring approximately one metre by five metres there, according to a statement by the Fire Services Bureau (CB).

There were no passengers on board the bus at the time of the crash, but the 33-year-old male cabbie, who was trapped in the vehicle, sustained a laceration to his forehead and contusion on the chest, while the 31-year-old male taxi passenger sustained a contusion on his left knee.

The statement noted that the two local victims were rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre, with the taxi driver losing consciousness.

As reported by public broadcaster TDM, the Public Security Police (PSP) said they initially believed that the taxi’s failure to give way had caused the accident.

Meanwhile, at around 4 p.m. yesterday, there was another collision between a bus and a taxi on Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus in Taipa. Four people aged between 34 and 57 were injured, including the taxi driver and three bus passengers, and all had to be taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre and the private Kiang Wu Hospital, with contusions and abrasions.
