Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) Vice-President Leung Hio Ming said yesterday the government would strive to maintain the tranquillity and idyll of the Taipa-Houses Museum area after the renovation work on the five mansions is completed, while developing the area into another leisure attraction with cultural and creative elements.
Leung made the remarks as a guest speaker at Macau Forum, an open-air debate hosted by government-owned broadcaster TDM in Areia Preta Park every Sunday.
Yesterday’s focus of the forum was about the renovation work of the five buildings near a protected mangrove habitat for rare birds, as well as the government’s policies on cultural heritage protection in the city.
The bureau said last week that the work on the transformation of the area was expected to be completed by the end of next month and that the budget was around 6.4 million patacas.
