Local commentator Guderian Leung Kai Yin said yesterday the government should pay more attention to animal rights, adding he hoped the government will do more to protect animals.

Leung, a social work tutor at the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM), talked to The Macau Post Daily after a forum in Areia Preta Park. The forum, organised by the Macau Wisdom Convergence Network, focussed on the city’s first-ever Animal Protection Law which will come into force on Thursday.

Leung said the government had drafted the Animal Protection Law “simply” in response to public pressure, adding that the law was inadequate to protect animals.
