A 45-year-old woman was taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre at 1 p.m. yesterday, the Fire Service Bureau (CB) said in a statement, as she felt dizzy after taking a shower.
The statement noted that the victim is a local resident living in a flat on Estrada do Cemitério.
The statement said that the woman’s condition was stable when she was taken to the hospital.
Firefighters found out that the gas heater in her kitchen was installed without a ventilation pipe, the statement said, adding that about 15 parts-per-million carbon monoxide (CO1) was recorded by gas detectors.
According to the statement, an inspection by a gas supply company staff member concluded that the gas heater had been improperly installed.
The statement underlined that the family was told to temporarily stop using the gas heater.
