Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences President Wang Jun yesterday urged Macau to strengthen co-operation with Guangdong province, to help diversify the city’s economy whose development, he said, is hindered by its small area and a large population in relation to its size.
Wang spoke to reporters on the sidelines of a forum organised by the City University of Macau and the Macau Economic Promotion Association. The forum, whose topic was about deeper co-operation between Macau and Guangdong, was held on the campus of the private university in Taipa.
Apart from insufficient land resources, Wang said that another obstacle for the local economy to further develop was its heavy reliance on just one industry – the gaming sector.
