A local man with a criminal record was arrested on Wednesday for taking upskirt photos of a woman last Monday in a supermarket in Nape, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said at a regular press conference on Friday.
Leong said that the 42-year-old jobless suspect surnamed Leong has a criminal record for sexual harassment and taking sneak photos of women.
According to Leong, the victim, who is in her thirties, reported to the police last Monday that someone took upskirt photos of her earlier that day. The victim told police that she realised that someone was following her when she was shopping in a supermarket on Rua Cidade de Coimbra that day, but she ignored the person. Besides, another female customer in the supermarket suspected that a man was taking sneak photos of the victim, so she immediately told the victim about her suspicion and together they reported the case to the police.
After scrutinising the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system, PSP officers identified Leong as the suspect and caught him in Rua do Almirante Sérgio last Wednesday.
Under questioning, the suspect admitted that he has a habit of taking upskirt photos of women. However, he did not reveal what he used the photos for, Leong said, adding that PSP officers did not find any upskirt photos or clips on his computer or mobile phone.
Leong said that the suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an invasion of privacy charge.
This undated pixilated handout photo provided by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Friday shows the suspect being escorted by a PSP officer to a vehicle.
