Returning for a third year, the annual Sands Shopping Carnival at The Venetian’s Cotai Expo is slated for September 10-12 after its initial July dates were postponed due to the latest COVID-19 outbreak, the resort operator said in a recent statement.
The traditional Mid-Autumn Festival takes place on September 11.
The three-day event, according to the statement, is organised by Sands in conjunction with the Macau Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with other entities such as the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) and the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO). The event aims to support the government’s economic revival strategy and its e-consumption voucher scheme.
The statement noted that the free-admission carnival will feature over 580 booths and provide a free business platform amid the COVID-19 pandemic for local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and Sands retailers.
It also offers a weekend destination for members of the public during the Mid-Autumn Festival and features an international-cuisine food court area, activities and games for children, as well as the newly added Healthy Lifestyle and Sport Accessories areas, the statement said.
The statement added that the “ICBC ePay Presents: Karaoke King Singing Competition” also marks its return, along with the new “BNU Presents: Street Dance Competition”.
Both competitions are free for both contestants and audience members, with applications accepted until 6 p.m. on Friday. Sands emphasised that it is implementing measures at the carnival against COVID-19 such as temperature checks, mandatory wearing of facemasks and the regular disinfection of public areas and kids’ facilities.
Moreover, all exhibitors, the statement pointed out, must either be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 days prior to the event, or provide a negative nucleic acid test (NAT) result obtained within 7 days before the event.
