Two Vietnamese men were arrested on Wednesday for trafficking methamphetamine (ice) and ecstasy (MDMA), with an estimated street value of 4,700 patacas, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheuk Lou Chi said at a press conference later that day.

Cheuk said that the two male suspects, one aged 22 and the other aged 31, both surnamed Nguyen, told the police they are unemployed. The are friends but not related.

According to Cheuk, the Judiciary Police were recently tipped off about some people selling drugs in the northern district of Areia Preta.

After identifying the two suspects, Cheuk said that later that day police officers intercepted one of them near their flat on Monday night and the other one in the flat.

According to Cheuk, police later searched the suspects and their home and seized two small packets of ice weighing 1.09 grammes, and six MDMA pills, as well as an electronic scale and packaging equipment.

Cheuk said that the two suspects admitted to drug trafficking, but refused to tell the police where the drugs came from.

According to Cheuk, the duo tested positive for ecstasy and ice.

Cheuk said the Judiciary Police believe that the two suspects have been trafficking drugs for three months, and both have a drug habit.

According to Cheuk, both were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Wednesday to face drug trafficking charges.
