A man died after jumping from Sai Van Bridge on Monday night, according to a text message from the Public Security Police (PSP) on that day.
Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leng said in a statement yesterday that the 35-year-old victim, surnamed Wong, was a civil servant.
The statement said that the Judiciary Police were notified by the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre at around 10:20 p.m. on Monday that a man, who had “fallen” into the coastal waters, was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital.
According to the statement, a member of the public told the police that a man riding a motorbike parked his vehicle in the motorcycle lane on Sai Van Bridge, after which he walked to the edge of the bridge and jumped.
Afterwards, the statement said, the Public Security Police informed the Macau Customs Service whose officers retrieved the victim from the waters under the bridge, after which the Fire Services Bureau (CB) rushed him to the public hospital by ambulance.
The statement pointed out that no suspicious injuries were found on the victim. The statement added that the exact cause of death could only be confirmed by forensic examination.
The case has preliminarily been classified as a dead-body-found case.
