Zhuhai will extend its measure that, generally speaking, only allows travellers to commute between Macau and Zhuhai via certain checkpoints once a day, for one more month.
The extension will start at 00:00 a.m. tomorrow and is slated to end at 11:59 p.m. on October 8.
The extension was announced in a statement by the Zhuhai health authorities quoted by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday.
Since August 9, travellers in general have only been allowed to commute between Macau and Zhuhai once a day via all Macau-Zhuhai checkpoints, except those in certain special groups, such as cross-border students, drivers and mortuary workers. The measure was initially slated to end at 11:59 p.m. today.
Yesterday’s statement announced that Zhuhai health authorities have decided to extend the measure for one more month, but the one-month extension will only be applicable to the Gongbei, Qingmao and Wanzai checkpoints (officially called “ports”).
The Macau-side checkpoint of Zhuhai’s Gongbei checkpoint is the Barrier Gate checkpoint, while Qingmao is a Macau-Zhuhai joint checkpoint which is located in Macau’s Ilha Verde district. Zhuhai’s Wanzai checkpoint runs a ferry service with Macau’s Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal.
According to yesterday’s statement, the one-month extension will not be applicable to the Hengqin checkpoint, and the Zhuhai-Macau checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB), i.e., travellers will not be subject to a limitation on the number of their commutes between the two cities per day via these two checkpoints from tomorrow.
Hengqin checkpoint is a Macau-Zhuhai joint checkpoint in Zhuhai’s Hengqin Island, which connects with Macau’s Cotai via the Lotus Flower Bridge.
