Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said at Friday’s regular press conference that a Myanmarese woman was arrested for cheating her former colleague out of 92,246 patacas.
Lou noted that the 27-year-old suspect, surnamed Lwin, told the police that she is jobless, while the 31-year-old female victim who is a catering staff, had worked with the suspect.
According to Lou, Lwin had claimed to the victim that her mother was suffering from cancer and needed money for medical treatment in Macau so the victim lent her 92,246 patacas between March and June. The victim told the police that when she asked Lwin to repay the debt, the suspect kept procrastinating about repaying the victim.
Lwin had not returned to work since September 7 and the victim lost contact with her, Lou said, adding that at the same time, the victim discovered that Lwin’s mother was in Myanmar and is not suffering from cancer, she then realised that she had been defrauded by Lwin, so she reported the case to the police.
Lou noted that the Public Security Police (PSP) intercepted Lwin on Wednesday when the suspect went to the PSP Immigration Department to renew various documents.
Under questioning by the Judiciary Police, Lwin admitted that she had defrauded the victim, and spent all the illicit money on daily necessities.
According to Lou, Lwin has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a fraud charge, involving a considerably large amount of money.
