The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has announced that a fireworks display will be held at 9 p.m. tomorrow, i.e., National Day on October 1.
The MGTO made the announcement in two statements this week, on Wednesday and yesterday.
The city’s annual Macau International Fireworks Display Contest, which used to be held from early September through National Day, was cancelled in 2020 and last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong revealed early this month that the local government was aiming to resume its fireworks display on National Day this year.
According to yesterday’s statement, the fireworks will be displayed close to the waterfront near Macau Tower at 9 p.m. tomorrow.
Yesterday’s statement said that the fireworks display in celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) will last around 15 minutes.
According to the statement, the display will be in four themed chapters, namely “Long Live the Motherland”, “The Golden Days”, “Shared Vision into a Better Future”, and “Build the Chinese Dream Together”.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a public event yesterday, MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong noted that Macau recorded its highest daily number of visitors on Friday last week, at around 26,000, since its latest COVID-19 outbreak that began on June 18 and subsided in July.
Macau’s tourism sector has been gradually recovering since Zhuhai lifted its hotel quarantine for arrivals from Macau on August 3. Currently, the negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test (NAT) result for those travelling between Macau and Zhuhai is valid for 48 hours.
