Macau's gross gaming revenue (GGR) dropped 49.6 percent year on year to 2.9 billion patacas last month, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has announced today.
However, GGR rose 35.3 percent month on month.
In the first nine months of the year, GGR amounted to 31.8 billion patacas.
Last month's GGR was the highest since May this year.
According to the latest available data from the inspectorate, Macau's six gaming operators ran 37 casinos at the end of June.
The government is currently reviewing proposals by seven bidders for the maximum of six gaming concessions to be granted at the beginning of next year. The bidders comprise Macau's six current operators (SJM, Sands, Galaxy, Melco, Wynn, and MGM) and a local company associated with Malaysian casino giant Genting.
The concessions will have a duration of up to 10 years, according to Macau's amended gaming law which was promulgated earlier this year.
Macau's casino concessions go back to the mid-19th century.
