The 34th Macao Arts Festival (MAF) is slated to take place in May 2024, with submission for proposals for local programmes and new commissions open until August 28, according to an IC statement yesterday.
The statement noted that non-profit art and cultural associations registered at the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) or individuals aged 18 and above with a valid Macau ID card are welcome to submit their proposals.
The statement added that in the “Individual Programmes” category, the call is open to new works (i.e., no re-runs) that have never been publicly performed in Macau, to “encourage breakthroughs and innovation in artistic creation, along with the merging of local history with contemporary culture, and to further expand artists’ development”.
The MAF, the statement said, welcomes all performing genres, with priority given to works integrating electronic or digital technology and those to be staged at Macau World Heritage sites. Selected programmes will be granted a subsidy for productions to be premiered during the 34th MAF.
The “Performing Arts Gala” will also accept proposals for outdoor family programmes, adding that all performance styles are accepted and priority will be given to works featuring interactive activities and reflecting “ethnic characteristics”, the statement noted.
