The Greater Bay Area Kid Soccer Friendly Match 2022 was held on Sunday at the MUST Athletic Field in Taipa, which was divided into two sessions, according to a statement by the MUST CPK Soccer Training Centre.

The Greater Bay Area (GBA) comprises the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau and nine cities in Guangdong – Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan, and Zhuhai.

The match was co-hosted by the centre and HSBC Life.

According to the statement, 38 local players who had been selected by the centre were split into two teams to play friendly matches against WQK Football Club from Guangzhou.

The statement pointed out that the match allowed local young football players to improve their football skills by “tightly” interacting and learning from the team from Guangdong through “training with competition” practices. By fostering more young football players, the match aimed to better promote the development of football progress among the young players, leading the local sports sector into a higher quality and more professional direction, the statement added.

Apart from the match, the statement noted, on-site soccer experience areas, football-themed game booths, and also a special soccer-skills sharing session by professional coaches from the centre were set up for guests and youths to get closer to local professional football players and soccer games, as well as to experience the fun of sports.

The Guangzhou team beat the local one 5-1.

MUST CPK is the short form of the Chao Pak Kei Football Team which is sponsored by the private Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).

The local team was set up in 2008.
